We are the Alexandria University Motorsports (AUMotorsports) team. We are the first team
from Alexandria to join the Formula Student Competition Series. The Formula Student
Competition series is composed of 7 events in more than 5 different countries, the competition
is organized by a specific organizing committee in each country but all are governed by the SAE
International.
SAE International is a global association of more than 128,000 engineers and related technical
experts in the aerospace, automotive and commercial‐vehicle industries. SAE International's
core competencies are life‐long learning and voluntary consensus standards development. SAE
International's charitable arm is the SAE Foundation, which supports many programs, including
A World In Motion® and the Collegiate Design Series.
The challenge is to design and build a single seat formula racecar with which students can
compete against teams from all over the world.
The competition is not won solely by the team
with the fastest car, but rather by the team with the best overall package of construction,
performance, and financial and sales planning.
The challenge the teams face is to compose a
complete package consisting of a well constructed racecar and a sales plan that best matches
these given criteria.
The decision is made by a jury of experts from the motorsport, automotive
and supplier industries.
The jury will judge every team’s car and sales plan based on
construction, cost planning and sales presentation. The rest of the judging will be done out on
the track, where the students demonstrate in a number of performance tests how well their
self‐built racecars fare in their true environment.
For each university there can only be one
team participating so the team represents Alexandria University.
The team has already joined the Formula Student Germany event in summer 2010 and we've
started working to join the Formula Student Germany event in summer 2011.
The current
project is to work on building a new car from scratch in the next 9 months and participate in the
event which is held in August.
The team is already formed and is working on designing the car
taking into consideration all performance and design parameters as well as building upon our
previous year experience and learning from our mistakes.
Our goal is to compete on the international level in more than one event in the coming years!
The main vision is to achieve that is by working as a well structured team working with the
highest standards and capable of competing on the international level and present the high
caliber of Egyptian engineers who are able to compete with their ingenuity and quality of work.
The project is especially useful for us as students because we get to work practically on a live
project as well has experience beforehand the working environment including deadlines,
budget limitations and human resources limitation. Moreover, it’s a very good practice to all
the what we learned at the university and increasing our knowledge of the engineering practice
